November 10, 1775, the Maritime Committee of the Continental Congress set down the humble beginnings of a proud tradition which carries on today, the Marine Corp.  The first American marines were recruited by Captain Robert Mullen from a Philadelphia pub known as Tun Tavern.  Our figure depicts one of these first marines in the act of loading a blunderbuss in the heat of battle.  He wears the uniform of 1777.
