Sir Peter Halket was the commander of the 44th Rgt. of Foot at Braddock’s defeat in July 1755, and was killed along with some 896 other British and Colonial troops. When he fell, his son, Lt James Halket, came to Sir Peters aid but was immediately shot in the head and killed, and according to eye witnesses he fell across his father’s body.
